Endless Cinema

Difficult it is to ordain one's thoughts on a subject as complex. Retrocession brings to mind the involvement of thousands of beings who contributed with their creation on film, dreams and manifestos, so very stimulating to us. The history of cinema, with its inventors and obstinate creators, was the reason for our efforts this year in completing an uninterrupted cycle of thirty years.

The example set by Mostra Internacional de Cinema is one of persistence. Resistance, first of all; curiosity and uneasiness, before that. What comes later, as ballast to this intense story of thirty years, is reward alone. Above all in solidarity.

And the feeling of a mission accomplished with the ballast of a generous look from so many spectators, for tolerance and cultural diversity. Mission accomplished, also, with the information we have endeavored to bring to São Paulo and to the country, abbreviating time for diffusion and knowledge. Without international solidarity towards Mostra, this would not be possible either.

Stories can be written as required. Stories can be manipulated and accept the dialectic and the whims of each age. But cinema is something else again. Cinema is unique and has a history of its own. Cinema requires only a helping hand to reach the audience. Cinema needs leaders such as Mostra has always endeavored to be - to redeem self-esteem. Cinema is our motivation and our effort to understand a world astonishing for its injustice and for a dearth of solutions.

Cinema teaches us and guides us. In the light of cinema, we become a little less blind, as suggested in the unaffected commemorative art by Master Manoel de Oliveira. Cinema opens our eyes, and brings us wisdom and energy. Cinema makes us super-heroes without our being exceptional. With cinema, we experience unforgettable stories. And, best of all, we live the stories of endless cinema.
