The public indicate the favorites for the 29th Mostra.

On Saturday, October 29, the coordinators of the 29th Mostra BR de Cinema - Mostra Internacional de Cinema announced the list of films in competition that were most voted by the public. These films will be evaluated by the international jury and compete for the Bandeira Paulista trophy. The closing ceremony with the awarding of prizes will be on Thursday, November 3, at 9:00 P.M. at the Memorial da América Latina. The prize giving will be followed by a special exhibition of the Russian classic The Battleship Potemkin, in a restored version, with sound by the Jazz Sinfônica orchestra. Tickets for the ceremony are available at the Mostra Center (at the Conjunto Nacional) in exchange for one kilo of grain.

Films nominated - Among the documentaries most voted by the public: The Peddler´s Backpack (2005, Brazil), by Gabriela Greeb; For a Better Day (2005, Brazil), by João Jardim; Viva Zapatero! (2005, Italy), by Sabina Guzzanti. Fiction films nominated are: Adam's Apples (2005, Denmark), by Anders Thomas Jensen; Al Outro Lado (2005, Mexico), by Gustavo Loza; Le Grand Voyage (2005, France and Morocco), by Isamël Ferroukhi; The Machine (2005, Brazil), by João Falcão; Cafundó (2005, Brazil), by Paulo Betti and Clóvis Bueno; Lower City (2005, Brazil), by Sérgio Machado; Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (2005, Brazil), by Marcelo Gomes; Kontakt (2005, Germany), by Sergej Stanojkovski; Hell (2005, France, Italy, Belgium, and Japan), by Danis Tanovic; Peacock (2005, China), by Gu Changwei; Quarta B (2005, Brazil), by Marcelo Galvão, and Everything is Illuminated (2005, United States), by Liev Screiber.

Jury - Members of the Jury for the 29th Mostra are: Argentine actress Antonella Costa, Austrian director and producer, photography director and author of documentaries and films, Christian Berger, Swiss director Clemens Klopfenstein, Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, Portuguese director João Botelho, curator from the Swedish Film Institute, Jon Wengstron, French script writer Marie-José Sanselme, and Brazilian writer and journalist Zuenir Ventura.

The public will continue to vote on their choice of films so that, at the end of the 29th Mostra, the awards will be given in accordance with the popular vote.
