Silvio Caiozzi believes digital will change the film exhibition in movie theaters

The Chilean filmmaker Silvio Caiozzi, director of Cachimba, is a veteran in the Film Festival. He had his first film, Julio Começa em Julho, exhibited in the 3rd Film Festival, in 1979. Until today he keeps a clear remembrance of that time: “I remember there was a huge banner on the wall of MASP where the grades of the films were written. And people rush to see which film was best quoted. I’ve never seen anything like that in a festival”.

Last Sunday (23rd), Caiozzi was at “Meeting with the Latin Cinema”, at Clube da Mostra (Conjunto Nacional – Bombril Hall, 2073, Paulista Avenue). The filmmakers Emilio Maillé (director of Rosário Tijeras) and Amat Escalante (director of Sangre) had also participated.

The power and the digital - Talking about his movies, Caiozzi said that one of his most concerns is the power theme. “Not that I have foreseen that, but analyzing my films today, I notice that they always talk about the power game and how we try to perpetuate it.”

The future of the cinema under the new digital technology doesn’t concern the Chilean filmmaker. Caiozzi believes that the cinematographic language will not necessarily change due to the new techniques. However, he believes that a great change in terms of exhibition will happen. “The big 35 mm exhibition theater movies can even disappear, being replaced by a cinema transmitted by satellite, which people will be able to watch from their homes or small theaters. I believe and hope this will be a solution for the independent movie. “
