The 29th BR Film Festival opening night will happen at Memorial da América Latina
The opening night of the 29th BR Film Festival – São Paulo International Film Festival, will happen on next Thursday, October 20th, at 9:00 pm, at Memorial da America Latina. It will be exhibited the short-film My Dad Is A Hundred Years Old, idealized by Isabella Rossellini, in honor of her father, and the feature film Good Night and Good Luck, a production written and directed by George Clooney, awarded in the Venice Festival 2005 for Best Screenplay and Best Actor.
My Dad Is A Hundred Years Old is directed by the Canadian Guy Maddin – who had a retrospective of his films in the 28th São Paulo International Film Festival, and it celebrates the life and work of Roberto Rossellini. In the film, Isabella Rossellini plays her father, her mother – the actress Ingrid Bergman – and other icons of the motion picture such as Fellini, Hitchcock, Chaplin and the producer David O. Selznick. Good Night and Good Luck happens in the United States in the 50’s, during the politic time of Senator Joseph McCarthy of “the hunt of the witches”, against the presumed communists.
Every year, São Paulo International Film Festival singles out its opening night with a different event, innovating its locations and attractions. At the 19th Film Festival, it was an open-air party, at the Open Space from MASP, with the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, who had his feature film The Flower of My Secret exhibited. At the 24th Film Festival, the opening night party was at Sala São Paulo, with the exhibition of Word and Utopia, by the Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira (who returns to São Paulo in 2005, with his latest feature film Magic Mirror) During two other occasions, the Film Festival marked its opening night with shows: in the 25th Film Festival, a show with No Smoking Orchestra, integrated by the filmmaker Emir Kusturica, and the 26th Film Festival, a show with the Leningrad Cowboys, a band frequently associate to the films of the Finn filmmakers Aki and Mika Kaurismäki.
