Spanish cinema celebrates an end to the crisis in San Sebastian
The Spanish cinematographic market is celebrating a particularly good phase. In 2004, after two years of crisis, production saw an increase once more, with a total of 133 films made. In addition to adopting an attractive policy of tax benefits, Spain is also investing in partnerships with other countries. Co-productions have resulted in success such as in the case of Ae Fond Kiss... (28th Mostra), by Ken Loach; and Blood Mallory, by Julien Magnat, for instance, with a substantial increase in the first quarter of this year - 15% in relation to the same period last year. A major event is to take place within this positive context, September 18 through 19 - the San Sebastian 20th Forum of Co-productions, a gathering of producers, investors, TV executives, and sales agents from various parts of the world in the city of San Sebastian itself. The forum was organized by the European Producers Club concomitant with the San Sebastian 53rd Film Festival, this year September 15 through 24. Projects forwarded for assessment are submitted to a committee made up of important names in the film industry such as David Thompson - BBC (UK), Nik Powell - NFTS (UK), Raimond Goebel - Pandora (Germany), Mylada Rybarova - Senator (Germany), Yves Marmion - UGC (France), and Antonio Saura Zebra Producciones (Spain).
Those interested in participating should contact the organizers of the event by e-mail at forums.epc@wanadoo.fr. Registration will be until September 8. The authors of the projects selected will be advised by e-mail.
