Cannes Film Festival opens inscriptions for a Residence Program

The inscriptions for the 2006 Cannes Festival Residence Program are now open. In effect since the year 2000, the Program affords beginner film makers from different parts of the world with all of the infrastructure necessary so that they may develop their projects for a first or second feature. The Program is four and a half months long, during which time those selected actually stay in Paris at the expense of the Festival Management.

A jury presided over by a renowned film maker selects candidates who are to be part of the Program from among 12 who have been pre-selected. Candidates are assessed by the artistic vigor of their short films or their first features, by the consistency of the project they intend to carry out, and by the reasons that have led them to volunteer for the Cannes Festival Residence.

Over the course of the event, the young film makers are given access to privileged follow-up and take part in sessions that are organized for them with renowned film makers and other professionals in the sector.

This year Sinhalese film maker Vimukthi Jayasundara, participant of one of the former editions, was awarded the Golden Camera Prize for Sulanga Enu Pinisa, a project developed with the assistance of the Program.

Inscriptions for the next season - due February 28 through July 10, 2006 - are open until September 19 and must be made on-site at www.festival-cannes.org. A final selection by the jury is programmed for December 9.
